Welcome to Nisoria Musical Instruments!
We make pentatonic and diatonic instruments that are rooted in our experience with music and pedagogy. We strive to make quality instruments that are balanced in form and tone. The design of our products is modern, inspired by Waldorf art, while allowing the natural tone of the wood to come alive.
This lyre has the following pentatonic tuning: d’, e’, g’, a’, b’, d”, e”, g”, a”, b” / re’, mi’, sol’, la’, si’, re”, mi”, sol”, la”, si”
You can naturally vary the tuning of the instrument within certain limits.

All of our lyres are made of one piece of wood, selected for resonance, with no defects and structurally solid.

This particular instrument is made of American Walnut wood. The natural resonance of the wood results in a special rich tone, while the natural oil composition of the walnut wood makes the sound mellow and tamed.
This instrument is polished carefully to allow the natural colors of the wood to shine through.
We finish the instrument with a few coats of Shellac. We used natural colored shellac on this special walnut model to emphasize the rich color of the wood. We never apply paint or any coloring on our instruments, besides the natural color of shellac.
Naturally, wood grain and color vary with each instrument, each one being unique.
We use only high quality parts. The tuning pegs, tuning keys and strings are made in Germany.

This particular instrument is made of European Ash wood. Ash is often used for solid body musical instruments. The natural resonance of the wood results in a balanced tone that is sweet sounding, for defined lower notes to clear high notes.
The heartwood of some Ash trees has nice dark-on-light stripes that resemble Olive wood. We use mostly this part of the timber that is not only beautiful but also dense and strong, which helps with the resonance of the instrument and the rigidity against the string tension.

After we give the wood a general shape we achieve the unique texture of the instrument by carving all its surface with small radius gouges.
We finish the instrument with a few coats of Shellac. We use natural colored shellac for our ash instruments which ads a yellow – orange layer of color to the brown hues of the wood.

Nisoria lyres are hand crafted musical instruments.
The sound of the lyre is warm and soothing. The tuning is pentatonic: d’, e’, g’, a’, b’, d”, e”, g”, a”, b” / re’, mi’, sol’, la’, si’, re”, mi”, sol”, la”, si”
Benefits of the music created with the lyre are as great as it is easy to learn to play this instrument. It has a powerful calming effect, therefore it is very appreciated by parents and people who work with children.
Due to the pentatonic tuning, regardless of the order in which the sounds are played, the result will be harmonious. That’s why, even those who play for the first time can enjoy the music of the lyre by experimenting and improvising. As one deepens the study of the instrument, musical exercises and pieces can grow in complexity.

The pentatonic harps / lyres are frequently used in the Waldorf Education schools.
